Florida Keys December 2006

Key West at Sunset

Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine. This grotto was built by Sister Gabriel and fellow nuns. On May 25, 1922 Sister Gabriel dedicated the grotto saying, "For as long as this grotto stands, Key West will never experience the full brunt of a hurricane." Today, area residents pray and light candles at the grotto whenever a hurricane threatens their shores.

Key West Lighthouse

St. Paul's - The oldest church in the Florida Keys.

This was the location and typewriter that Ernest Hemingway used to construct many of his novels. According to a Hemingway House guide, Hemingway considered himself to be a poor writer but a great re-writer. He would often write novels over and over again before he was completely satisfied.
